And so we’re off! The initial phase of the Atikkam Network launch happened (more or less) on schedule last night. A big thank you to everyone who helped make it happen, especially the ACRED development team who were up very late last night.

The Network sites are designed and built in-house, and we don’t expect to get everything right first time. There are bound to be teething problems and unexpected quirks. So please do let us know if you experience any problems with any of the Atikkam sites, either in terms of functionality or cross-browser performance. We’ve tested with latest versions of all the main browsers, and with Internet Explorer 8. We do expect some minor issues with older versions and certain mobile browsers, but we will run a mobile version alongside the full site and the user will be able to toggle between the two. Atikkam Media director Dr. Mark Anderson gave the development team one overriding stipulation: “it has to look good on the iPad.” We think we’ve managed that.

You will notice that any links to the forthcoming channels, Planet, Culture and Society, won’t take you anywhere at the moment. These links will be activated as each channel goes online next year. This is a slightly clumsy solution to our staggered launch, but we promise it’s only temporary. The Academy site is online as scheduled.
